Dear UB1 community,

Please see below for pool and tennis\/pickleball news, and what\u2019s on in the community. There are lots of great activities planned for week 7 of summer at UB1 including the Adult Party, dance camp and the annual talent night! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pool News<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Session 4 swimming lessons sign-up <\/strong>will start today, Thursday, August 10th at 6:00 pm<\/em>. The form (link sent with newsletter on August 10th) will close on Saturday August 12th at 10:00 am. Class Lists will be posted on Saturday, August 12th<\/em> by the end of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the sun setting earlier, lifeguards may need to make the call to close the pool earlier than scheduled based on light and visibility of the water in order to keep everyone safe. Please check Facebook for the most up-to-date information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please make sure you are showering and using toys and wearing swimwear that are designated for the pool only to help us keep the pool sparkling 🙂.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tennis and Pickleball News<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Our tennis lesson schedule for the next two weeks will be posted by the guards by the end of the weekend and emailed out to members soon. If you did not sign up in time but your child was in lessons already, please email upperbeechwood1tennis@gmail.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our tennis instructor for the next two weeks is Daniela M again! Max will be her junior volunteer the week of August 14th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social and Community<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

It is time to celebrate our UB1 adults! Please join us for our annual adult party next Thursday, August 17th between 8:00pm to 11:00pm. <\/strong>The pool deck will be lit up with lights and we promise a fun night! Have a fireside chat with friends and neighbours or dance into the night with live music from the fabulous Silvia D and the Boyfriend (back by popular demand). There will be beer and wine, and snacks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those able to lend a hand, we could use help with set up from 7:30pm – 8:00pm or take down 11:00pm – 11:30pm. Please email our Community Director, Cindy Desbiens if you can help upperbeechwood1community@gmail.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s back! UB1 will be hosting the annual Ice Cream Truck event on Wednesday, August 30th from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. <\/strong>The Ice Cream Truck will be driving around the UB1 neighbourhood to deliver ice cream to our members from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. It is a great way to get out and see your neighbours while enjoying a frozen treat!\u00a0 More information about tickets and ice cream options to come!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Free weekly yoga at UB1 on Wednesday night. <\/strong>Please join certified yoga instructor, Nina, at 7:00pm in the UB1 basketball court on Wednesday evening for an hour of yoga. No experience needed. Please bring your own yoga mat or towel and wear comfortable clothes. Feel free to bring a friend or come on your own and meet new friends!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The City of Waterloo and the Waterloo Public Library invite you to come have a <\/strong>Day of Play <\/strong><\/a>on Saturday, August 12th<\/strong> from 11:00am to 4:00pm along the Waterloo Park Promenade.  There will be activities, games, adventures for the whole family and more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

UB1 Land<\/strong> – The board game of challenges and swimming lengths!<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Hi swimmers! Are you ready for your Scuba Missions? Pick up your score card in the guard office to start swimming laps and completing weekly Scuba Missions to win a prize at the end of the summer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ready for Week 7\u2019s Scuba Mission? <\/strong>Collect a swim-themed word search from the bulletin board and complete it to get a sticker on your UB1 land score card!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dance Camp<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Join us for Dance Camp next week the 14th to the 16th 1:00-2:00pm<\/strong> on the basketball court! We will run dance games and choreograph our Barbie-themed dance for Talent Night (August 16th at 6pm). See you there!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talent Night<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Come on down to UB1\u2019s annual talent night! Bring your family, some snacks (we will have pop and chips for $1), and your best talent with you! Be sure to sign up beforehand and come to the basketball courts at 6pm on Wednesday, August 16th!<\/strong> The Dance Camp Team will also be putting on a special performance! All the guards are so excited to see what makes you all so incredibly unique!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jen Hamilton, Pool Director<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jen and her husband, Derek, have lived in the UB1 neighbourhood for 17 years. Their two boys have participated in swimming and tennis lessons at UB1 for many years and you will often see their family at the many UB1 events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jen joined the UB1 board in 2016 as Pool Director because she wanted to get involved and meet her neighbours.  Since joining the board, Jen has done a terrific job recruiting our wonderful pool staff and overseeing swimming lessons and pool activities. She is responsible for the new pool deck furniture, flowering plants and the shade sails that make UB1 an appealing place to hang out on a hot day. Jen also brought us the popular annual ice cream truck event which is scheduled for August 30th. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jen works full-time in the education sector as a Special Education teacher and is also involved in the community by volunteering at Monica Place and Tiny Home Takeout. After 7 years, Jen is stepping down from her role on the board at the end of this year. A big thank you to Jen for all her work helping to make UB1 a vibrant and friendly place for all of us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UB1 Board of Directors is always interested in recruiting directors from our covenant membership and members or associates who would like to volunteer on a committee to help serve the UB1 community. If you would like to get involved in your UB1 community, please contact Monica Heinrich, President<\/a>, for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
