Dear UB1 community,
Please see below for pool and tennis/pickleball news, and what’s on in the community. There are lots of great activities planned for week 8 of summer at UB1 including the very popular Carnival Night! Please note that the Adult Party planned for tonight has been postponed to August 30th due to weather.
Pool News
Week 8 is the final week of regular swimming lessons.
Bronze Medallion and Cross (August 28th to Sept 1st from 7:30am to 1/2pm) have a few spots left if you know anyone who may be interested. Email ub1guards@gmail.com to get information about the fees and to register.
With the sun setting earlier, lifeguards may need to make the call to close the pool earlier than scheduled based on light and visibility of the water in order to keep everyone safe. Please check UB1 Facebook page for the most up-to-date information.
Please make sure you are showering and using toys and wearing swimwear that are designated for the pool only to help us keep the pool sparkling 🙂.
Tennis and Pickleball News
Our final week of tennis lessons is coming up next week! Daniela M will be back for the final week, with Olivia P helping her with the lessons. We hope you had a great tennis season!
On-line court bookings are available at tennisub1.skedda.com. A reminder that bookings are limited to one hour per day to give everyone a chance to play especially during prime evening hours. Of course you are welcome to stay and play beyond the 1 hour if the courts are empty!

Spotlight
Get to know your UB1 Board of Directors!
Jenna Ferguson, Membership Director
Jenna and her husband, Mark, moved into the UB1 neighbourhood in 2012 and got involved in the community almost right away. Mark was the UB1 Pool Director for several years and Jenna joined the UB1 board first as Associates Director in 2017 and then took on the Membership Director role in 2020. Jenna and Mark’s two children can often be found at UB1 in swimming and tennis lessons and the whole family turns out to participate in the many UB1 events.
Jenna joined the UB1 board because it is a way to connect with the neighbours and model for her children giving back to the community. She has been a real asset to UB1, not only as the friendly main point of contact for members and associates, but also volunteering for several projects, such as initiating and overseeing the large job of having the pool painted last Fall, and the recent pool deck extension. You may also have seen her at the pool cutting back vines, pulling weeds or doing any job that needs a helping hand. Jenna works full-time in the public sector and is also involved in the community with school associations and other organizations.
The UB1 Board of Directors is always interested in recruiting directors from our covenant membership and members or associates who would like to volunteer on a committee to help serve the UB1 community. If you would like to get involved in your UB1 community, please contact Monica Heinrich, President, for more information.
Have a good week!
