The countdown is on as the UB1 Board and staff team get ready to open the doors this coming Friday, pending a successful pool inspection this week. The UB1 pool and tennis teams are excited to welcome you back for a fun-packed summer in and around the pool and on the courts! Please be sure to check the website for the schedule of events and refer to the UB1 facebook page for the most up-to-date updates i.e., when weather is in question.  

Thank you to Louis and Jenna for spearheading the work that has been completed on the pool ground interior, to Andrea and team for the tennis court clean up, and to Agnes, pool manager Ailidh, and activity coordinator Jamie for planning such a full calendar of events.

At this time, your Board would like to take the opportunity to welcome two new directors who stepped forward with applications following the AGM and have been appointed as interim Directors. Taking on the new role of Vice President is Barbara Csima (upperbeechwood1vicepresident@gmail.com) and stepping into the role of Secretary is Cheri Treurniet (upperbeechwood1secretary@gmail.com).

The Board would also like to take a moment to thank Beth McLay for her tireless efforts and commitment to the community as Secretary for the past 5 years. Over Beth’s time on the Board communications have grown to include an updated website (with the volunteered assistance of Gary Hesselink) and the weekly comprehensive, concise, informative, and professional newsletter we all look to each week during the summer for a snapshot of the week to come during the open season – and throughout the year as warranted. Beth’s role of Board Secretary has ensured the smooth organization and record keeping of our Board meetings (in person or virtual) and AGM alike. Beth’s valuable contribution to the Board’s discussions, planning and decision making will be missed. Before Beth retires entirely from the Board she will be assisting Cheri as she takes over in this role.

Please note that the position of Community Director remains vacant.  This role is vital to the social portion of the UB1 seasonal calendar of Events.  We encourage you to consider this role to ensure the successful programming of events like the Adult party and ice cream truck. We also have some other ideas waiting for help with implementation by a Director and fun, enthusiastic committee members. The Board would like to thank Cindy Desbiens for her contributions as Community Director for the past few years.   Cindy was responsible for the implementation of the extremely well received out-of-season programming like the community walks, and for rounding out the social program to include programs like the virtual science and meditation talks, as well as bringing back the community movie nights and organizing the adult pool parties. Thank you Cindy for your contributions to the Board and the UB1 Community.
