Today marks a big step towards summer at UB1! This afternoon, the Province announced that swimming pools are included in Stage 2 of the provincial opening plan. We are fortunate that the Region of Waterloo is included in the regions allowed to open pools beginning Friday, June 12.
While the pool is ready and waiting, we have been advised we should allow a minimum of 14 days for Health and Safety to inspect the pool and to give approval to open. The pool managers already have UB1 in the queue for the inspection. In the meantime, they will be training the guards and preparing for the COVID requirements at the facility. We do not have a firm opening date as a result but will update you as soon as Health and Safety has inspected the pool.
In order to keep everyone safe, please expect some new COVID-19-related rules and policies for the pool. We will likely be required to limit the capacity of the pool and add new measures such as social distancing, temperature screening, and entry and exit through different gates. It is possible showers and change rooms may not be available. We are still working through these details and what COVID-19 changes will mean for swim lessons and activities. We will keep you posted on the website as we learn more.
Thank you for your patience as we work through this unfamiliar process. We look forward to seeing you soon!
