Dear UB1 members,
Please see below for information about the Winter Walk on December 15th, a reminder about volunteers still needed for the ice rink, and a note about a coyote spotted in the UB1 neighbourhood this evening.
Holiday Walk – December 15th
Please plan to join UB1 neighbours and members for our annual Holiday walk on December 15th from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. The Holiday walk to see the lights and decorated houses in the neighbourhood starts or finishes (your choice) at the corner of Branstone and Clair Creek (UB1 property) where our UB1 Directors will be serving hot chocolate and hot apple cider along with a sweet treat. Please bring your own thermal mug. There will be a prize for the top-voted best decorated house.
We will be collecting donations to the Waterloo Region Food Bank as well as donations of new, unwrapped toys for the Salvation Army Toy Mountain.
Any neighbours who are interested in lighting the Holiday Walk route with a Holidary luminary, please sign up with the google form provided in the email sent November 24th by December 1st. A DIY luminary kit will be dropped off to you the week of December 4th.
Please contact Cindy Desbiens, our Community Director, with any questions or to volunteer to help with the event.
Volunteers needed – Community Ice Rink
We are still looking for a few more volunteers for the ice rink on the baseball diamond at Regency Park this winter. The city supplies the boards, water and equipment. We are looking for volunteers who can commit one evening per week (after 9pm) to scrape and flood the ice. We need lots of volunteers to keep the ice flooded. If you are able to volunteer, please fill out the online application (see below for the link) on the City of Waterloo website by December 1st. When filling out the form, please ensure that you fill out Regency Park as the ice rink at which you want to volunteer. Please note that volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. Please also see the information about the Regency rink that show the hours for skating and for hockey.
If you have any questions, you can contact rink convenor, Adrienne Brown, at adrienne.r@gmail.com.
To volunteer, please sign up at the City Of Waterloo website by December 1st. When filling out the form, please ensure that you fill out Regency Park as the ice rink at which you want to volunteer. Please see screen shots below:

Coyote spotted near UB1
A neighbour has reported a coyote sighting at the corner of Branstone and Clair Creek this evening. According to the Ontario government website, if you encounter a coyote, keep your distance and the animal will most likely avoid you. It also advises to keep dogs in at night and not to leave any pet food or garbage outside.
If you encounter an aggressive animal:
- do not turn your back or run
- remain calm – stand tall, wave your hands, and make lots of noise while slowly backing away
