Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross courses will be held the week before school starts (August 28th to September 1st) in the mornings/early afternoons. Sign-up is open to anyone who is interested. You can email ub1guards@gmail.com with the participant’s full name, date of birth, and what course they want to take. Bronze medallion has an age prerequisite (13yo or Bronze Star). If they are signing up for Bronze Cross, we need proof of Bronze Medallion or proof of registration in a Bronze Medallion course that is finished before the Bronze Cross course starts. Feel free to pass along the message to anyone who may be interested!
Help us keep the pool sparkling and refreshing!
All swimmers must take a shower before entering the pool. By showering/using the washroom before swimming you can help keep the pool chemicals balanced which can lead to a more pleasant swimming experience. Sweat, urine, and body lotions/creams etc. can alter the pool chemistry. The Lifeguards at UB1 thank you for helping us keep the chemicals balanced and the pool clean!
Tennis and Pickleball News
Behavior policy – just a gentle reminder that all members, including our youngest members, should endeavor to conduct themselves in a courteous manner to our tennis instructors and their peers. Please ask your children to refrain from hitting balls over fences, or grabbing candy at the end of the lesson instead of waiting for it to be handed out. Tennis lessons are going well but are much more enjoyable when everyone is striving to learn and not disrupt the lessons.
The junior tennis lesson schedule for July 10 to 14 is posted in the newsletter email and at the pool. Please email upperbeechwood1tennis@gmail.com if there are any questions or errors. Also, please welcome our instructor next week, David P, with help from Olivia P and Nathan S!
Pickleball Interest – next week we will have a couple of Learn to Play Pickleball sessions. They will be added to the UB1 calendar. If these go well we can add more again towards the end of July. For those of you that already play pickleball, if you are interested in finding a group of 4 to play pickleball with just email upperbeechwood1tennis@gmail.com and I can reach out to other members and across the neighborhoods to connect you to like-minded people with similar schedules.
Social and Community
We are looking for a yoga instructor who is available one week night a week for an hour throughout the summer to provide paid yoga instruction at UB1. If you know of someone who would be interested, please contact Cindy at upperbeechwood1community@gmail.com.
Do you have a kind neighbour who goes the extra mile? The Neighbourhood Kindness program can help strengthen connections and support in our neighbourhood. Consider nominating your neighbour! They will receive a thank you package from the City of Waterloo.
The City of Waterloo is hosting free movies in Waterloo Park at the bandshell again this summer. On Thursday, July 13th, they will be showing The Super Mario Bros Movie (2023). Please bring a non-perishable food item for the Food Bank. Movies begin at sundown.
Uptown Waterloo’s popular Night Market is back every Thursday night from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at the Central Library this summer. Taste local treats, browse local vendors, enjoy entertainment from local musicians and variety performers, and take part in fun pop-up programming.
