Holiday Walk, Ice Rink and Lifeguards Wanted

Dear UB1 members,

Please see below for information about the upcoming Holiday Walk, the neighbourhood ice rink and a special note from our new pool manager, Lia Heard, for those who are interested in working as a lifeguard at the pool this summer.

Holiday Walk – Save the Date

Back by popular demand, the UB1 social committee is organizing a holiday walk around the UB1 neighbourhood again this year to see all the lights and decorated houses. The event will take place on Tuesday, December 21st. The walking route will likely be the same with Clair Creek, Branstone, Wingrove and Kingsmill (and maybe some other streets will be added!) on the route. It is already looking pretty festive in the neighbourhood but for those on the route who haven’t decorated, please feel free to participate by putting up holiday decorations and/or lights. Please mark the date and there will be more details to follow soon.

Please contact Amy Walbridge with any questions or to volunteer to help with the event.

Ice Rink Update

Thank you to all the UB1 members and other neighbours who have volunteered to help with the ice rink. As a result of the high level of interest, there will be an ice rink at Roxton and Fischer Hallman this winter as long as the weather cooperates! The boards and the water tap are all set up on the baseball diamond. If the weather we are getting tonight continues, we should have a rink in no time!

There are several Covid-19 procedures and rink rules; please visit the City of Waterloo website before using the rink.

Interested in being a lifeguard/swim instructor at UB1 this summer?

We are now accepting applications for Lifeguards for the 2022 summer season. Please send a cover letter and resume to to apply. Required qualifications are current National Lifeguard, Standard First Aid and CPR C, and Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certifications. Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor certification is an asset. If you are missing a qualification, but are planning on taking them before May you are still eligible to apply. Candidates should be responsible, creative, enthusiastic, and hard working. It is best to get your application in before the last week in December, but we will continue to hire until all positions are filled. We look forward to hearing from you!

Hope to see you on the 21st!
