End of season thank you

Hello UB1 members,

Mother Nature seems to agree today that it is time to close the gate on the 2020 pool season at UB1. And what a season it was! On behalf of your Board of Directors, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your patience, your respect for the new rules and protocols, and for your support as we navigated this unprecedented summer of COVID -19 together.

As we close the year, I would like to take the time to thank our pool managers, Abby and Kate, for working tirelessly alongside Jen (UB1’s pool director) to implement the necessary COVID-19 protocols to keep our community safe during free swims and lessons, while providing equal opportunity for all members to use the pool. The guard staff, Ben, Daniel, Emma, Lea, Marly, Ruth, Sophia, Taylor and Vanessa, were committed to making your time at UB1 as fun as possible despite the new rules; they deserve a big round of applause. I know they also missed participating in the many normal group activities with your families this year!  And, Sophia did an amazing job of creating a full agenda of virtual activities available for UB1 kids.  I loved reading about them each Sunday. Tennis lessons were different on the courts as well with Evi and Grady really enjoying their smaller group sessions. I think the kids did too!  We are so lucky at UB1 to have a group of enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and caring young people that make up our staff.  I am sure I can speak for the UB1 community when I say we appreciate all of them.

With so much unpredictable but necessary change this year we hope that our new weekly newsletter and up-to-date website were helpful. A thank you to Beth (UB1 secretary) who spearheaded our updates and to Gary Hesselink for pulling together the website and online registration form.  We will continue to update the website throughout the year as we move into 2021 so please remember to use it as an information resource.

I would like to thank each of the Board of Directors, Steve, Jenna, Jen, Matt, Art and Sue, and Beth for their many long hours of preparation for this year’s season. A huge effort by all!  The reward was a full – though different, fun and safe summer at UB1.

It was nice to see so many of you out for ice cream last week as the ice cream truck made its way through the UB1 neighbourhood. It was a fun and socially responsible way to celebrate the end of the season.

It is hard to predict what next year will hold for summer at UB1 so for now, we wish you a safe, happy and successful year until we see you again.

As always, please feel free to reach out with questions or comments.

In health,

Monica
